Buy Tailoring Machines For Teenage Mothers

Uganda has one of the highest rate of child marriages in the Sub- Saharan African region, attributing 40% to women aged 20-24 who were married before age 18, and 10% married before the age of 15. The Eastern region constitutes 15.8% of the national population of adolescents and youth aged 15-19 years and has continuously experienced arising number of early marriages and teenage pregnancies. The main causes of this include sexual violence, forced and early marriages, poverty, ignorance among others. This has resulted into increased illiteracy, street kids, disillusionment and poor living standards in families of such young mothers who are in most cases abandoned by their ‘supposed-to-be-husbands.

Each year, 12 million girls are married before the age of 18. That’s 23 girls every minute. – Global Girls Alliance

Join us as we fundraise to buy tailoring machines for a group of 50 teenage mothers under Young Mothers Health Initiative, an organisation in Bugiri District, empowering young mothers through vocational skills such as tailoring and hair dressing. However, in the process they are faced with a number of challenges such as inadequate resources, limited tailoring machines, materials and working space; something that has slowed down their efficiency.

Through this campaign we look forward to supporting the young mothers attain financial stability for them to sustainably care for their young ones, build a foundation for them to run small scale businesses and also for them to earn sustainable income.

420 million people would be lifted out of poverty by getting better education and life skills. This would cut the number of people living in poverty by more than half. Every single one of us can do our part to make that world a reality.

Following the above challenges, we seek urgent support towards our noble cause of fundraising to buy tailoring machines for 50 teenage mothers.
